The History of Twin Springs Ranch

Image
Would you like to take a road trip with me? Nope, you won’t need a car or your smart phone, but you will need a good broke team of horses and a sturdy wagon! Let’s get going, our destination is in Delaware County, Oklahoma, near Flint Creek, only 11 miles west of Siloam Springs on Highway 412. The place we are going to is called Twin Springs Ranch now, but in 1920, when it was built, it had a different name. The ranch is named for the two bubbling springs that come out of the caves in which the house is built above. The two springs supply water for the house, cabin, and all the cattle on the ranch. Are the horses harnessed and ready to go? Before we get too far into our trip, you need to know a little bit about what life was like in the 1900s. Woodrow Wilson was president of the United States; James B.A. Robertson was governor of Oklahoma, and T.D. Evans was the mayor of Tulsa. In 1922-1928 and 1932-1934 Herman “Henry” Newblock was mayor of Tulsa. A gallon of milk and a dozen eggs woul...

Staff Sergeant Reckless

When I read the story of a 14 hand chestnut mare that was committed to service, obedience, sacrifice, and loyalty, I fell in love with her & her story immediately! The reason I fell in love with this horse & her story is because she is a perfect example to us on how to have an amazing heart!! Jeremiah 17:10  “I the Lord search the heart     and examine the mind, to reward each person according to their conduct,     according to what their deeds deserve.” 1 Samuel 16:7  But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” The name of this little Mongolian fireball was Flame-in-the-Morning. She was sold for $250.00 to the 5th Marines unit during the Korean War by a boy trying to get money to buy a prosthetic leg for his sister who had stepped on a land mine. The Marines started tr...

Memories & Writing

I started this blog because I enjoy writing about life on the ranch, people that I love, things God lays on my heart, and funny stories that hopefully brighten your day.  I will have posts on my childhood, motherhood, being a teacher, falling in love, crazy horse stories, crazy people stories, and crazy animal stories.  I love to sit around and tell stories so why not write them also. lol Memories… mine all started on a Canadian wheat farm.  Our land skirted the edge of the prairies near the foothills of the Rocky Mountains.  Dad was a fourth generation farmer, his Russian Mennonite great grandfather homesteaded 160 acres of free Alberta land near the town of Didsbury.  My parents were wheat farmers until I was ten years old, that is when my dad gave up farming in Canada for the dream of becoming a dentist in the United States.  We moved back to Oklahoma where my mother’s relatives were located.  After finishing high school 1995 I began college at Nort...

Twin Springs Ranch Legacy

Twin Springs Ranch Legacy Several years ago, I went to a cowboy church, and the pastor was a counselor who was doing equine therapy. I was very interested in it, and I volunteered to help him. We did some neat ministry and even got to spend time doing equine therapy in Seneca Missouri with the Eastern Shawnee tribe. These were trips and people I will never forget! In the back of my mind, I thought, Wow, this is amazing how God can use horses to minister to people. I would love to do this!  Fast forward a few years, and my daughter was the equine director at Teen Challenge Adventure Ranch in Marrow Arkansas. I got to volunteer and go with them on campouts with the horses and boys. Eventually they sent her to equine therapy training for staff development. I signed up for the training and went with her and loved every minute of it. Again, I thought, Wow, it would be awesome to do this. In 2021, my husband and I bought my grandparents place, Twin Springs Ranch. In the back...
